A collection of 76 lessons demonstrating the Aha! Moments of becoming a thinking analytical manager and not a ”showing up boss.”
Have you ever heard someone say “Get Your Head in the Game?” well that is essentially the message of “Check Your Drawers”. Robert Eaton had to go through a temporary demotion from district to unit manager before he realized the difference of being a boss and being the manager. By learning that lesson he moved all the way to C.O.O. That is why he said on the cover, “What your boss wishes you knew.” The book “Check Your Drawers” is about getting your head in the game! The boss is paying you for your time, so if you aren’t thinking about the job he isn’t getting what he paid for!
So many people get the physical part of being a manager in that they go out and buy a new wardrobe and briefcase. Maybe even a laptop, tablet computer or Smartphone. They have the physical part of the job, but not the mental part. That is being in the frame of mind that is focused on and observing the actions before, during, and after the results so that they can analyze the whole chain of events. When you learn to have your brain or thinking right, you can walk into a room and almost immediately sense what is going on and whether or not it is correct.
“I have enjoyed reading “Check Your Drawers” and there are at least 76 reasons why any leader in business, at any level, must have this on their “must read” list. It is practical, it has truth woven throughout, and the feature I really liked was the “Important Concepts” at the end of each chapter. If there were a word or two to describe the reason to read cover to cover, they are “situational awareness”, as while we may pass on our DNA to the next generation, we do not pass on our experiences. “Check Your Drawers” does that, and the lessons learned in the book are invaluable. Once read, I can only say “pass it on”; there are many golden nuggets to share! “
